  3. Takt Calculation for Robot Tandem Stamping Lines Multi‑Machine Collaborative‑Efficiency Analysis

Line takt serves as the core output indicator for robot‑based tandem stamping lines. In a tandem line, workpieces pass sequentially through multiple presses. Overall takt is constrained by two major factors: press stroke cycle time and robot material‑handling cycle time.

The press stroke cycle refers to the time consumed as the slide travels from top dead center for stamping and returns. Each press performs one single process and runs in parallel with others. Therefore, theoretical line takt approximates the stroke‑cycle time of a single press instead of the sum‑total of all press cycles, which accounts for the high productivity of tandem layouts.

Robot handling cycle time is another critical constraint. The complete cycle of picking parts from the upstream press and placing them into the downstream press must be shorter than the press stroke time. Once robot handling consumes more time than press cycling, robots become the bottleneck and limit line throughput regardless of press capacity. In practice, actual line takt equals the larger value between press stroke‑cycle time and robot handling‑cycle time.

Multi‑machine collaboration efficiency depends on several factors. Robots require sufficient motion speed to complete pick‑up, flipping, transfer and placement within short cycles. Center‑to‑center press spacing shall be properly defined: excessive spacing prolongs transfer time, while insufficient clearance hinders maintenance. Precise signal inter‑communication is essential: robots receive completion signals from finished presses and feed workpieces to subsequent stations, which can only initiate stamping after part arrival. Signal latency at any link degrades overall takt.

Compared with manual transfer characterized by low speed, poor positioning accuracy and safety risks, robot‑automated transfer realizes fast and repeatable workpiece flow, stabilizes line takt, improves product consistency and keeps operators away from hazardous press zones.
