  3. Working Principle of Magnetic Palletizers Magnetic Transfer Method for Surface Protection

Magnetic palletizers are a type of automatic stacking equipment at the end of blanking lines. The biggest difference from gravity palletizers is that they use magnetic force to transfer sheets, rather than relying on gravity to let the sheets fall on their own. This "magnetic transfer" design gives magnetic palletizers unique advantages in protecting sheet surfaces. Their working principle deserves a detailed explanation.

The working process of a magnetic palletizer is as follows: after sheets exit the shearing or blanking equipment, they enter the magnetic belt conveying area. The magnetic belt itself carries magnetic force; as soon as a sheet touches it, it is firmly attracted and moves forward with the belt. The magnetic belt transports the sheet to a position above the receiving station. When the set position is reached, the magnetic force is released, and the sheet is gently placed onto the trolley, stacking layer by layer. Once full, the trolley is changed.

The core here is the "magnetic attraction transfer" design. Throughout the entire transfer process, the sheet travels in contact with the magnetic belt, firmly held by magnetic force, without shaking or slipping. After reaching the receiving position, the magnetic force is released, and the sheet's descent is also controlled and smooth. Throughout the entire process, the sheet remains in a firmly controlled state.

By contrast, gravity palletizing lets sheets fall freely from the end of the conveyor onto the trolley, relying on gravity to complete stacking. Free fall always involves a drop height; the sheet lands with impact, and sheets collide and rub against each other. For ordinary sheets with low surface requirements, this impact does not matter; but for sheets with high surface quality requirements, such impact and friction can leave scratches and dents.

This is where the magnetic palletizer's surface protection comes in: the sheet is held by magnetic force throughout, travels in contact with the belt, does not fall freely, and does not collide with other objects, minimizing bumps and scratches. For sheets with high surface quality requirements—such as sheets for visible appearance parts or sheets with surface coatings—the protective effect of magnetic palletizing is very pronounced.

Magnetic palletizers also have several other features. First, they are suitable for sheets of various shapes, because magnetic attraction is not shape-dependent—round, square, and irregular sheets can all be held, offering good adaptability. Second, the prerequisite is that the material is magnetic. Magnetic palletizing relies on the material's own magnetic permeability. Carbon steel sheets have excellent magnetic properties and fully meet the requirements for magnetic palletizing; non-magnetic materials such as aluminum, copper, and stainless steel cannot use magnetic palletizing and must use other stacking methods. Third, the magnetic force can be adjusted. For sheets of different thicknesses and weights, the magnetic force can be adjusted to ensure secure holding without damaging the material.

When selecting a magnetic palletizer, several aspects deserve attention. First, material magnetism: confirm that your sheet material is suitable for magnetic palletizing. Second, sheet dimensions and weight: the width of the magnetic belt, the magnetic force, and the trolley's load capacity must all match. Third, surface quality requirements: if the sheet surface requirements are high, magnetic palletizing is the more suitable choice. Fourth, integration with the blanking line: the infeed position, speed, and signal interaction must all coordinate well with the preceding shearing equipment so that the entire line runs smoothly and efficiently.

The problem that magnetic palletizers solve, put plainly, is "stack fast without damaging the surface." Using magnetic force to steadily convey the sheet and gently set it down, achieving neat stacks while protecting the surface—satisfying both requirements at once. This is precisely the value of magnetic palletizers.
