In stamping indestry, decoiling, straightening, and feeding thick coils are often more challenging than processing standard coils. Due to the metal properties of thick plates, traditional decoiling straightening feeding systems are often unable to handle them effectively, which may lead to unstable processing, equipment damage, or even safety issues. Therefore, finding effective solutions for thick coil processing has become an important concern for manufacturing enterprises. This article will help you understand the main difficulties of processing thick coils, as well as the relevant equipment.


Material thickness range definition

In the stamping industry, coils with a thickness of less than 3mm are generally considered thin plates, those with a thickness of 3-4.5mm are medium plates, and those with a thickness greater than 4.5mm are thick plates.

Challenges

1. Decoiling

Thick coils contain high internal stress and can easily spring open after the strapping is cut. Thick coils tend to be heavier, which means a greater load on the mandrel.

2. Straightening

Thick coils generally have high yield strength, which requires a much stronger straightening force. The straightening rollers must have sufficient rigidity to avoid bending or deformation, which would affect both the straightening quality and equipment lifespan.

3. Feeding

During feeding, if the clamping force of the rollers is insufficient, slipping may occur, causing feeding deviation. At the same time, the system must provide enough driving force to avoid slow feeding or unstable feeding pitch.

Solutions

1. Uncoiler Straightener RUL-H

In case of limited budget, you can choose our uncoiler straightener RUL-H. It is mainly designed for coil materials ranging from 0.5 to 6.0mm and is equipped with a press arm. The spindle expansion method is hydraulic expansion.

2. Thick Plate Servo Feeder RNC-HB



The RNC-HB thick plate servo feeder provides greater torque compared to conventional servo feeders. It is mainly designed for coil materials ranging from 0.5 to 6.0mm. The machine wall panels are made of thicker plates for a more robust structure, improved performance, and longer service life.

3. NC Straightener Feeder

(The MAC4, MAC4-F, MAC4-H)

Our MAC4 series and above NC straightener feeders are specifically designed for thick plates. The MAC4, MAC4-F, and MAC4-H series are primarily for coil materials ranging from 0.6 to 6.0mm. The uncoiler is configured with a loading trolley, and the straightening part uses high-rigidity, high-flatness work rollers. The roller spacing can be adjusted manually or via touchscreen. The control system has a memory function, allowing the spacing settings to be directly recalled for the next time the same product is processed.

Although all of the above equipment can handle thick plates, the MAC series has a better processing capability. If you need to handle wider rolls, we recommend using the MAC series. We need to make the selection based on the specific parameters of the coil material.
