What Is the Difference Between Mechanical Coil Feeder and Servo Coil Feeder

In metal processing, the function of a coil feeder is to feed the leveled metal strip to the downstream equipment. Coil feeders can be mainly divided into mechanical and servo types. Although their function are the same, their driving methods and application scenarios are different. This article will help you understand the mechanical feeder and the servo feeder.
1. Mechanical Feeder
A mechanical feeder achieves feeding through linkage to the press output shaft. It is mainly divided into two types. One type is driven by an eccentric disc, and the other is driven by a cam mechanism. RUIHUI's models are RF and GCF.

The feeding length of a mechanical feeder is adjusted manually. For the RF and GCF, adjustment is achieved by changing the eccentric distance of the tie rod on the eccentric disc, or by the conversion of 1-4 gears. Mechanical feeders operate at high speeds and can achieve feeding accuracy within ±0.05 mm. They are mainly used for high-speed production of 3C electronic and hardware products.
2. Servo Feeder
The main difference between servo feeders and mechanical feeders lies in the driving method. Servo feeders are driven by servo motors. The feeding length and feeding speed can be adjusted freely. Feeding accuracy can be controlled within ±0.2 mm. Thanks to their flexibility, servo feeders are widely used in industries such as home appliances and automotive. However, servo feeders may be affected by electromagnetic interference, unstable voltage, or program-related issues. Their feeding accuracy may be lower than mechanical feeders.

| Item | Mechanical Feeder | Servo Feeder |
| Cost | Moderate | Relatively High |
| Feeding Speed | High | Moderate |
| Feeding Accuracy | High(±0.05mm) | Moderate(±0.2mm) |
| Feeding Adjustment | Manual | Electric |
In summary, mechanical feeders and servo feeders each have different advantages. Mechanical feeders are suitable for high-speed stamping production of small to medium-sized products. Servo feeders have wider applicability and are easier to operate. If you are interested in coil feeders or have any questions, feel free to contact us. Thank you for reading.
