Difference Between Cut to Length Line and Complete Slitting Line

In metal processing, the coil is the starting point. Various processing steps are performed on the coil to obtain the final product. Both the cut-to-length line and the complete slitting line are used for preliminary processing of the coil material before further processing. Next, we will explore the differences between them.
1. Applications

First, we need to understand the process content of both. A cut-to-length line uses a shearing machine to cut materials horizontally, obtaining sheets of the same length. A complete slitting line uses a cutter shaft to cut materials vertically, obtaining coils of the same width. Sheets are generally used directly for tandem stamping or 3-axis transfer stamping. Coils can be used for progressive die stamping, or they can be sheared and then used for multi-station stamping.
2. Feeding
In cut-to-length production lines, to ensure consistent sheet length, the feeder must follow a pre-set feeding step distance. This is a common type of stop-and-go shearing. Another scenario involves continuous feeding and shearing; this type of production line is called continuous flying shear.
In slitting production lines, to ensure consistent cut width, only the blade spacing on the cutter shaft needs adjustment. The feeder typically provides a stable, continuous feed.
3. Material Receiving

The cut-to-line line collects sheet material using a stacking system. The slitting line uses a winding machine for strip receiving, similar to a decoiler mandrel.
In summary, slitting and cut-to-length lines each have unique functions. We need to select them based on actual production needs. If you are interested in slitting or cut-to-length production lines, please contact us. Thank you for reading.
