  3. Introduction to Common Metals in Stamping

Using the stamping machine and dies, we can complete the stamping forming of metal materials. Different materials have different properties, we need to choose the appropriate processing methods based on these properties. Next, we will discuss some common metal materials used in the stamping field, along with their properties and applications.

Low Carbon Steel

Low carbon steel has moderate yield strength, good ductility, and relatively low cost, making it a widely used stamping material. Various processing techniques, such as deep drawing, bending, and blanking, can be completed using cold stamping.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant and is generally used in kitchenware, home appliances, and decorative parts.

If deep drawing is required, it needs to be processed in stages. If surface quality is required, laser blanking can be used to obtain the sheet material.

Copper

Copper has excellent ductility and conductivity, and is generally used for small electronic hardware parts (such as spring contacts, pins, and crimp terminals). To achieve mass production, the stamping method is generally progressive die continuous stamping.

Aluminum

Aluminum is lightweight and has good ductility, making it commonly used in lightweight automotive parts and home appliances. During leveling, the straightening machine should have a lifted-up roller design for easy cleaning, reducing surface scratches caused by residue inside the rollers.

High Strength Steel

Compared to low carbon steel, high strength steel has higher strength and is lighter. It is generally used in the production of safety structural components in automobiles, aerospace, and other industries. High strength steel has a very high yield strength, requiring high temperatures to reduce the yield strength and improve ductility for effective stamping, that is hot forming stamping.

Overall, choose materials based on the actual application. Select the processing method according to the material’s properties. This helps ensure the quality and performance of the finished product.
